I have been talking to the class a lot about how they are really starting to look like first graders! I can't believe how much they have grown and how close we are to the end of kindergarten. What an amazing group of kids we have!
Our All About Japan book is up on the web! Thanks Mr. Jeffrey for scanning in all of our wonderful pages! It is posted on our "Library" page under "Classrooms - Ms. Yokoyama"

We Are Scientists!
This week we discovered how wood changes when it is sanded. We put on our protective goggles and went to work on getting as much sawdust off of our piece of wood as possible. We also explored with sawdust and shavings to see how we could make wood pulp. We will be using the wood pulp this week to make our own particleboard!
We got to meet Derek Munson, the author of Enemy Pie! He came to our school on Wednesday and read the book to all three kindergarten classes. We also got to do a fun activity where we made an "Enemy Pie" with gross things and then a true Enemy Pie that had delicious things. He was absolutely wonderful with the kids and they had a blast listening to him and helping make the pies :) After the show, we came back to our room and designed our own Enemy Pie!
We're making progress on our All About Me books! We started by coming up with 4 chapters about ourselves that we thought would help sum us up in a nutshell. We then used sticky notes to brainstorm facts to go into each chapter! We will start writing the actual pages this week! I can't wait to see their finished products!
Friday was Arbor Day! We talked a lot about Earth Day earlier in the week and continued to discuss ways that we can help our Earth on Friday. We came up with a list of reasons for why we love trees and then wrote about it to take home and share. I hope most of their pages made it home because they were pretty cute! Ms. Meg also did a great tree art project with them where she taught them how to draw trees and use tissue paper as leaves!
