Let the Halloween festivities begin! Our visit to Bob's corn was everything that I could have imagined it would be. I had a blast running around the corn maze, picking pumpkins, and watching the kids zoom around on the cow train! As per any field trip, there were a few moments of chaos and unsermountable stress. In my opinion, that just goes to show how awesome it was. My favorite moment of the day had to be when I released my 23 5 year olds into the corn maze. I paused and thought to myself, "there is no physical way that I can keep track of all my students.....well here goes nothing, and ran right in!" For my first field trip, I think it went off fairly smoothly! Thanks to all the volunteers for organizing everything and making it such a successful trip!
More pictures of our first outdoor adventure are posted on thegalleries page. Many parents took way more pictures than I did, so parents feel free to send me your pictures so that I can post them in the gallery!

Our adventure began with a hay barrel ride around the farm with Mrs. Cryan Leary's class. The kids had a blast sitting on the hay and enjoying the bumpy ride. The tractor was driven by non other than Bob himself!
The tractor dropped us of at a huge field filled with pumpkins! We all got to run around the field in search of our "perfect" pumpkins. We were encouraged by our guide to find a pumpkin that was about the size of our head. I found that some of us think we have some pretty big heads :)
Next on our list was the CORN MAZE! The task was to find 5 color stations that were hidden throughout the maze. Once you reached a color station you had to color your fingernail to prove you had been there. Once you're hand was full, it was time to find your way out! After a few minutes of sprinting through the maze with the kids, I realized I had no idea where I was! Kids were whizzing by me right and left asking me where is red, green, or purple? I kept thinking to myself, "I don’t even know where I'm standing, let alone where each color is." They definitely did a better job at navigating the maze than me.
Finally, it was time for lunch! After running for over a solid hour, we sat down to scarf our lunches. We had a blast chatting about what we had done so far and watching as Mrs. Shea performed her amazing carnival tricks! Who knew parents were so talented :) Once they refueled, they were raring and ready to go! Thanks everyone for remembering to bring sack lunches!
Oh the cow train.... I think this was the highlight of the trip for quite a few kids! Once 10 kids were seat belted in to all the cleverly named cows, they were off! At pretty good speeds, they whipped around corners and swerved a few doughnuts! As the train slowed to a stop, I heard more kids say, "that was awesome!" than any other time in my life! There was so much fun stuff to do at Bob's that the kids were entertained all day long.
As you all know, we've been exploring the wonderful world of SPIDERS for the month of October! We finished our exploration of spiders this week and are looking forward to moving forward with a new exploration next month! I think the kids had a blast learning all sorts of spider facts. We learned so many that we compiled a class spider book with all the facts that we learned, complete with kid-illustrated pictures! Now it's in our class library for everyone to enjoy! Here's a glimpse at the awesome book we made! If you find yourself looking through the pictures with your kindergartener, have them comment on the pages that they helped draw! Also, check out the student blog for individual posts on what fun facts your kindergarteners learned.
Short post this week, in an effort to gear up for a longer one with all the fun festivities going on next week! I might have to do a whole post just for Halloween!
Some quick notes,
- Weekly snack has been going great! Remember, you can bring in the whole weeks worth of snack in on Monday or daily.
- We're going to start a new share schedule starting the second week of November. I will send a little letter out explaining what to bring sometime this week.
- It has come to my attention that the e-mail notifications are still not going out to you when I post... we're working on it.
- Keep holding tight for student e-folios! I'm in the process of creating the sites now and they should be up and running by conference time.
- I would love to have a classroom volunteer who would be dedicated to being my tech helper! Once the e-folios are up and running, I will need help scanning student work and posting it to their individual pages. If that's something you're interested in please let me know!
-Lastly, THANK YOU for all the positive comments about the blog!!! I've really been enjoyed doing it. I've found that writing it just gets me excited for the week to come. It means a lot to me that you are all enjoying it!
HAVE A FANTASTIC HALLOWEEN!
