This last week before break has been one for the record books. Santa Lucia presentation, making our family gifts, completing our December writing, decorating gingerbread cookies, making gingerbread houses, and having our readers and writers celebration all in one week! It was packed to say the least. I don't know about your kindergartener, but I definitely had a good night sleep on Friday night :)
I want to thank everyone for my wonderful gifts! I wanted nothing more from this holiday break than to have beautiful flowers in my freshly clean house and to enjoy a cup of tea, a salted caramel and a great book! I also thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the kid made cards I received! Spending every day with your kindergarteners has been such an amazing journey already and I can't wait for what's to come. Thank you for being so supportive of me from day 1! I couldn't have asked for a better community during my first year of teaching!
I hope you enjoyed the family gift from your kindergartener. They spend a lot of time designing their frames from their own unique perspectives. I'm sure a few popsicle sticks fell off along the way, but it's the thought that counts right? I was lucky enough to borrow a friend’s fancy SLR camera this week to capture some good shots of the kiddos for the frames and during the celebration. After seeing the photos, I'm now in the market for one! Let me know if you know of anyone looking to get rid of one!
Many of you may have noticed that the kindergarten e-folios are in progress. Myself and my tech helper, Judy have been working very hard to get these sites up and running. Over the break, I will be uploading some pieces of work for each student. After the New Year, I will be sending home each student's individual website link, password, and user name so you can go in and edit, add and change whatever you like! These sites are for you and it's up to you how in depth they become. More info to come shortly, I just wanted to let you know that we're making some progress!
Have a wonderful winter break!

Have a wonderful winter break!
Santa Lucia! All 3 kindergarten classes packed in to Ms. Mark's room to listen to an amazing presentation from Abby's dad about this holiday. With a full powerpoint and some sweet saffron raisin bread, he captivated a crowd of 75 kindergarteners. Santa Lucia is celebrated on December 13th to honor St. Lucia. Every year the eldest daughter in the family dresses in a traditional white gown, a red sash, and a lighted crown as the head of the procession. On the morning of Santa Lucia, the eldest daughter wakes the family with hot coffee and Lussekatter saffron buns.
We made our own Santa Lucia crowns which actually turned out really well! They worked so hard on them that we decided to wear them for the rest of the day. Below are some more pictures of our Santa Lucia festivities.
Our second kindergarten social was gingerbread cookie decorating! An event like this wouldn't be complete without gobs of frosting, endless cookies, and lots of sprinkles! There was no way the kids couldn't have fun!
Our first readers and writers celebration was a hit! It was truly amazing to see so many families there in support of their students learning! All the kindergarteners were so excited to show off all they have learned. We'll be having more reading and writing celebrations throughout the year to showcase your student's learning and growth throughout the year.
