I wanted to cover a few logistical things before we dive into all the fun stuff we did this week!
1. I finally got my district e-mail up and running! It would be great if everyone could contact me via [email protected] from now on.
2. Our show and tell/snack schedule has been working great! It came to my attention that the dates for this week are incorrect. Please disregard the dates and assume that the 5 people for next week are Monday-Friday.
3. Curriculum night is TUESDAY the 27th at 7:00PM!!! So excited to chat with you all about the amazing things to come this year.
4. I hope you all got a chance to log into Dreambox this weekend with your kindergartener. I tried to send home the login instructions with all the students on Friday, but inevitably a few kids left there’s at school. If you haven’t received the instructions yet, I will send them home on Monday. We are going to begin using the Dreambox account THIS week! I can't wait to get the kids going on such an excellent tool for learning mathematics. (We will also be talking about how to navigate both Dreambox and Razz kids at curriculum night!)
5. Our classroom coordinator this year is Lara Shea! She will be in charge of organizing class parties, socials, and helping get useful information out to families. Heidi Roth will be our volunteer coordinator this year and she will be in charge of connecting with all of you who want to help out in the classroom. We will be going into more depth about volunteers at curriculum night!
6. We have a two hour early dismissal THIS WEDNESDAY the 28th. School will be out at 1:30.
7. We will be taking the MAP test Wednesday-Friday of this week! I am also trying to get through all of the intital assessments this week and next. The class will be having their first substitute Monday the 3rd in order for me to finish up!
8. As you may have noticed, I have not been reaching my goal of getting the weekly blog post up by Friday night! I think goal was a little too ambitious. Sunday night seems to be more achievable :)
Now, onto the FUN stuff!

Now, onto the FUN stuff!
Running Club started this week! At everyrecess, students have been running laps around the playground and keeping track of the miles they run! After each lap they recieve a popsicle stick and their miles are recorded on a big graph in the cafeteria! The kids have REALLY been getting into it!
As a staff, we've been discussing how to launch our first class projects! Should we all have the same topic? Should we let the kids vote? As a K team we decided to get input from our students! I want to make sure that learning is fun for every student in the class. To do this, I need to know what excites them and what THEY want to learn about!! To find that out, we had a whole class discussion on what each of us would really like to learn about. Here's what they came up with!!! I was SOOOO happy with the ideas came up with! I can't wait to lauch our first project around such AMAZING ideas!
Friday was the FIRST DAY OF FALL!!! To celebrate, we explored some fun Fall stations.
Station 1: We talked about all the different colors leaves can be in the Fall and then experimented with mixing paint colors! At the end of this station, the kids went on a nature walk to find different signs of Fall outside our classroom!
Station 2: We brainstormed all the different things we think about when we think of Fall! We talked about how those ideas could be signs of Fall for us. The most popular one was definitely Halloween!
Station #3: For our third station we explored with "people" colored markers and drew self portraits of ourselves. We read the book, Shades of People and discussed how people aren't really different colores, but different shades. The students chose their "shade" by putting the marker/crayon close to their skin to see if it matched. The pictures turned out great! I can't wait to get them on some colored paper and hang them in the hall!!
We have 2nd grade READING BUDDIES!! Mrs. Leckie's class came in on Friday to meet our fantastic kindergarteners! They all had a blast getting to know each other, enjoying books, and drawing. Your student will be assigned a reading buddy from Mrs. Leckie's class who will share and read books with them EVERY FRIDAY!! YAY!
To finish off our week we shared a slice of enemy (friendship) pie with the other 2 K classes! Earlier in the week we all read the book, Enemy Pie. In this book, a young boy and his dad try to get rid of an enemy by making an enemy pie. The dad tells his son that the only way enemy pie will work is if he spends the whole day with his enemy. As the day goes by, the two kids end up having a lot of fun together (imagine that). At the end of the day they share a slice of enemy (friendship) pie together. Before we handed any of the students their slice of pie, they pledged to be kind, safe, and fair friends to all the other kindergarteners!
