2012 is upon us and Lunar New Year has begun! The students have been enjoying learning about Lunar New Year and celebrating the year of the dragon. Since the New Year is a time for new beginnings, we gave our classroom a deep clean and with the help of Ms. Meg we scared all the bad luck away with the dragon puppets they made in art class!
Our second round of MAP testing is complete and we're working through testing the students reading levels. The growth we're seeing is AMAZING! We have a class full of growing readers! I can't believe how far they have come and I can't wait to see their excitement for reading keep growing. Congrats to your kindergarteners! Keep up the hard work!

We made lanterns to decorate the halls in celebration of Lunar New Year! On the last day of Lunar New Year we're planning on having a small kindergarten parade around the school with the lanterns and dragon masks we made! We busted out the glitter glue and sequins for this project, and I don't think the kids are going to let me put them away. I forgot how much fun glitter glue could be!
The snow week left us with a little catching up to do in each of our kindergarten classrooms. The topic of goals has been in the minds of the K team for a while. I am so glad that we were able to make this project happen! At the beginning of the week we talked about the difference between goals and wishes. We landed on having the kids write two academic goals and two personal goals. All of their goals are now up in the hallway. Come check them out!
We're a class full of story writers! This week, we wrote small moment Snowy Day stories. The Snowy Day was one of our star books that we read a lot at the beginning of the year. It was fun to see them re-create their own story using a mentor text that they know so well. All their stories are hung up in our classroom library. Feel free to come in afterschool and take a peek!
